Our open day on 7 October was a great success despite the miserable weather.
We were delighted to welcome 75 people to come and look around the facilities and spend time with our expert dog trainer and behaviour specialist Richard King.
Owner William Bruce conducted the majority of the tours and he said: “People were so enthusiastic and keen to see what we’ve been doing. Even some of our long-standing customers wanted a look around and it was great to show them some of the recent improvements.”
After their tour, customers were treated to a top-notch cream tea with lashings of cream and jam. Of course we had the age-old debate of which way around they should go, but the scones taste great no matter whether you prefer your jam on first or not!
Many customers had a consultation with dog trainer Richard King who gave talks on enriching your dog’s life during the winter months when they might get fewer or shorter walks. A mix of talks, group consultations and private one-to-ones made sure that everyone took away some tidbit to help them with their pet. Some came with their animals so that Richard could see the interactions and get to know the dog a little.
Richard says: “It was so interesting meeting so many dogs and their owners in one day. Being able to meet the dogs and see how they interact with their owners is so important. Sometimes it’s obvious straight away what the issue is and sometimes it takes a bit more digging, whether that’s about their diet, amount of exercise or something to do with lifestyles.
“Solutions can be simple or they can take a bit more work, but it’s worth it to have a happy and contended pet who isn’t having to be told off all the time.”
The rain really didn’t dampen spirits at all but by the end of the day we were all exhausted from so much chatting (and eating too many of those scones!).
Mrs Eathorne-Gibbons said: “It was a very good thing to do, reassuring to see the kennels etc before putting our dogs in next week.”
Mrs Allison added: “We were happy with the tour and could see the new kennels. As usual the staff were all very friendly and the cream tea was great."
